Choosing a Cable
America's telecom giants and cable companies spent the last 3 years and $90 billion re-wiring the country with fiber optic cables. Why? So we could all have "broad-band" high speed internet access. HDTV is also dependent on fiber optics for the same reason; HD programming at the highest resolution will require fiber optics in the home to prevent signal loss and data errors, particularly if the source and display are more than 15 ft. apart.
Dtrovision's PureLink™ brand of DVI Fiber Optic cable systems offers you three choices to meet your specific HDTV needs. The first step in choosing which is right for you is to decide if you are going to run the wire inside the walls or through a conduit, or if its OK for them to be outside the walls. We make the cables in two styles to accomodate both types of installations. OC is our "integrated" DVI cable with the optical converters and transceivers ingeniously positioned inside the actual connector on the end. The OBC is our "modular" DVI cable with the electronics in separate modules and the cable ends ready for plug and play, perfect for custom installations where the wire will be inside the wall. Both OC and OBC are HDCP compliant and for this reason are limited to 330 ft without data loss or signal errors.
The third choice is also modular, known as OLC. The electronics are also embedded in the metal casing of the connector itself. The only difference is that it is not HDCP compliant. However, it can go up to 5000 ft reliably so it has its own special markets such as large venues (stadiums), retail stores, hospitals, signage, and all staged events where digital multi-media is part of the show.
Copper cables have impedance and inductance characteristics that create data loss beyond 15 ft. If you want all the pixels to arrive at your display, without the tiling and noise artifacts that now occur routinely when viewing HD content, you need to step up to the higher capacity and zero data loss of fiber optics. As seen in our Eye Pattern Test below, copper cables cannot transmit an HD signal via DVI futher than 33 ft before the signal collapses. If there's no eye, there's no picture.

DVI Repeater: DLRP-001
Dtrovision's PureLink™ DVI Booster is designed to extend the range of a copper based delivery system in order to maintain high resolution in HD. A single DLRP-001 will carry HD content at 1080p WUXGA up to 66 ft and 1080i SXGA up to 100 ft. Used in conjunction with PureLink's Premium Copper DVI Cables, our booster can offer a less expensive option than fiber optics and does a nice job of extending the digital signal with minimal loss or noise.
